  1. INSTRUCTIONS FOR WINVELOPE VERSION 3.1

  3. Winvelope requires the Microsoft runtime file VBRUN100.DLL.  
  4. Realizing that many Windows users will already have this file
  5. and in an effort to reduce download time, this file is not 
  6. included with the download version of Winvelope.  If you do
  7. not have this file it can be found on several Compuserve
  8. Forums including Microsoft Language Forum, Windows Adv. Users
  9. Forum and most public BBS's that cater to Windows programs.
  10. If you have difficulty locating or obtaining this file, contact
  11. the author of Winvelope.

  15. This is a fully functional evaluation, "shareware" copy of 
  16. Winvelope 3.1.  Copying and distribution of this evaluation 
  17. version is authorized and encouraged so long as the 
  18. introduction/registration message remains intact.

  20. When you register Winvelope, you are granted a single license to
  21. use the Software on a single computer ("Dedicated Computer").
  22. You may use the software on another computer, provided that
  23. the intention is not to avoid purchasing additional copies for 
  24. other users.

  46. reasonable (30 day maximum) evaluation period, you are required to 
  47. register.

  50. software, a printed manual, continued product support, and notice of
  51. upgrades.  The shareware version will usually be one release behind the
  52. registered version.

  62. INTRODUCTION
  63.  
  64. Winvelope is a utility program that simplifies the printing of
  65. envelopes from the Windows operating environment.  Winvelope
  66. accomplishes this task in just a few quick keystrokes and adds a
  67. host of convenient features in the process.  Now instead of
  68. having to re-type the address, the user can copy it from a
  69. Windows document via the Clipboard and merge it directly to an
  70. envelope.

  72. Winvelope can be loaded and minimized to an icon when starting
  73. Windows so that it is always just a "mouse click" away.  A handy
  74. address book for Windows Cardfile is also included for storing
  75. and retrieving frequently used addresses.
  76.

  80.     to an envelope for printing.

  100. System Requirements:
  101.  
  102. Winvelope requires the following minimum hardware/software
  103. configuration:
  104.  
  105.     Computer with a 286 or 386 CPU.
  106.  
  107.     Windows 3.0 software installed in either "standard" or
  108.     "386" mode.
  109.  
  110.     Windows CARDFILE.EXE installed in the Windows
  111.     subdirectory.
  112.  
  113.     Printer supported by Windows and capable of feeding
  114.     envelopes.  
  115.  
  116.  
  117. Installation:
  118.  
  119. Create a subdirectory on your harddisk and copy the files from the Winvelope diskette to the new directory.

  127. One of the files on the Winvelope diskette is named VBRUN100.DLL.  
  128. This is the Microsoft runtime file for Visual Basic applications.  VBRUN100.DLL  must be located in the DOS search path.  This can be 
  129. done by adding the WINVELOP directory to the path statement of your
  130. AUTOEXEC.BAT file or a better solution is to copy this file to your Windows directory, which is already included in the path statement.   
  131. We suggest the latter option in order to minimize the size of your 
  132. path statement and more importantly,  with VBRUN100.DLL  located in 
  133. the Windows directory, your system will be setup for other Windows
  134. applications that may require this file in the future.

  136. Install Winvelope in Windows Program Manager or substitute using the following command line:
  137.  
  138.     [d:][path] WNVEL31.EXE
  139.  
  140. where [d:][path] is the drive and path containing the Winvelope files.
  141.  
  142. You may want to load Winvelope as an icon when you start Windows so 
  143. that it is always available.  To do this, modify the "load=" statement 
  144. in the [Windows] section of the WIN.INI file to include WNVEL31.EXE.

  150. Refer to your Windows Manual for more detailed information on this procedure.

  152. CONFIGURING WINVELOPE
  153.  
  154. Default Printer Orientation Setting:
  155.  
  156. Prior to trying to print from Winvelope, activate the DEFAULTS
  157. pull-down menu and select PRINTING DEFAULTS.  From this screen,
  158. select whether your printer prints envelopes in the portrait or
  159. landscape orientation.  After this selection is made and saved,
  160. Winvelope will automatically print the envelope in the correct
  161. orientation without having to access Printer Setup.  If
  162. landscape orientation is chosen, Winvelope will return the
  163. printer to portrait mode after the envelope is printed.

  165. Default Paper Bin Selection:
  166.  
  167. This option, also found in the PRINTING DEFAULTS setup routine,
  168. is primarily for laser printers.  This setting will control
  169. which paper source will be accessed when the print job is sent
  170. to the printer.  This setting is  particularly important to
  171. Hewlett Packard IIP, IIIP, and other similar type laser printers
  172. which will not feed an envelope from the manual feed tray when
  173. the lower paper cassette is installed without a direct call from
  174. the software.  Owners of these printers will want to select 
  175.  
  176. BIN 0 (UPPER TRAY), or BIN 2 (MANUAL FEED), if the lower paper
  177. cassette is installed.  This will allow you to have the lower
  178. cassette as the primary paper source and Winvelope will print
  179. the envelope from the upper tray.  
  180.  
  181. Owners of other types of laser printers may use this setting to
  182. choose whether or not a manual feed prompt is desired when
  183. Winvelope prints an envelope.  This may be desirable if the
  184. printer is located a distance from the user or if the printer is
  185. being shared and there is potential for someone else's printjob
  186. ending up on your envelope!  A little trial and error may be
  187. necessary here to get the desired effect, as a particular BIN
  188. number may produce different effects on different brands and
  189. models of printers.

  192. som popular laser printers:

  209. If after installing Winvelope you find the envelope won't feed
  210. or the address prints on a page from the wrong paper source, try
  211. different BIN settings until the desired effect is obtained.
  212.  
  213. Return Address Printing:
  214.  
  215. A return address can be printed if desired.  To store a default
  216. return address, activate the DEFAULTS pull-down menu and select
  217. RETURN ADDRESS.  Enter the return address in the space provided
  218. and SAVE.  You may set this feature to default either on or off
  219. by making  the corresponding selection in the PRINTING DEFAULTS
  220. selection of the DEFAULTS menu.  Of course, either option may be
  221. chosen at print time by use of the PRINT RETURN check box.
  222.  
  223. Converting to all Caps
  224.  
  225. The Postal Service now recommends using all capital letters when
  226. addressing mail.  Winvelope allows you to convert any address to
  227. all caps by making the selection in the PRINTING DEFAULTS menu. 
  228. If you change this setting after you have MERGED the address
  229. and/or activated the return address option, you will have to
  230. CLEAR and re-MERGE the address  and turn the return address
  231. option off and back on to see the results.

  233. OPERATION
  234.  
  235. Selection of Envelope Size:
  236.  
  237. Winvelope 3.1 provides the option of using  either a business
  238. (9-1/2" x 4"), personal (6-1/2" x 3-1/2"), or custom size
  239. envelope.  This selection is made from the pull-down menu.  The
  240. currently selected envelope size will display at the bottom left
  241. corner of the screen envelope graphic.
  242.  
  243. Setting Print Margins:
  244.  
  245. Winvelope has a very flexible adjustment for address print
  246. positions.  Adjustment down to a tenth of an inch can be made to
  247. the top and left print margins for both the return and addressee
  248. positions.  These adjustments are made by accessing the ADJUST
  249. PRINT POSITION selection  located at the bottom of the SELECT
  250. ENVELOPE pull-down menu.  If adjustment is necessary, it may be
  251. easier to print to an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper first and then
  252. measure approximately how far margins need to be adjusted to hit
  253. the envelope.  Margins are measured from the extent of the
  254. printers print range rather than from the edge of the envelope.

  256. Addressing the Envelope:
  257.  
  258. With Winvelope, there are three methods for addressing an
  259. envelope:
  260.  
  261.     1.    Capture an address from your Windows document by 
  262.         copying it to the Windows Clipboard.  Activate 
  263.         Winvelope and use the MERGE button to paste the 
  264.         address on the envelope.    
  265.  
  266.     2.    From Winvelope, activate the ADDRESS BOOK button 
  267.         which will launch Windows Cardfile and the file 
  268.         ADBOOK.CRD.  You may store and retrieve frequently 
  269.         used addresses here as a permanent address book.  
  270.         Copy a selected address to the Clipboard and MERGE 
  271.         as in method 1.  Refer to the Windows manual for 
  272.         more information on the use of Cardfile.

  274.     3.    From Winvelope, type an address directly onto the
  275.         envelope address box.

  279. Font Selection:
  280.  
  281. Printer fonts installed in Windows are available for selection
  282. from the drop-down listbox.  Once a font is selected, it will 
  283. remain the default until changed.
  284.  
  285. Font Attributes:
  286.  
  287. Bold and Italic type may be selected prior to printing by checking
  288. the appropriate boxes.  Text size may be selected from the
  289. drop-down list box.
  290.  
  291. Printing the Envelope:
  292.  
  293. The "PRINT" button prints the envelope via the Windows printer
  294. driver similar to any other Windows application.  If your
  295. printer prints envelopes in the landscape orientation, the
  296. printer will be changed to this orientation automatically prior
  297. to printing and then changed back to portrait orientation when
  298. finished.
  299.  
  300. Getting Help:

  302. By activating the HELP pull-down menu, you can access  the
  303. Winvelope online help program.  This program offers a summary of
  304. Winvelope commands and features.
